Polsara,25।9(Dr. Kumud Chandra Behera): Five families of Sodaka Nuasahi are now in distress after the walls of their weakened houses collapsed due to prolonged rain. Due to the rain, the houses of Sabita Barad, Jayanti Pradhan, Jhunu Pradhan, Ranjita Pradhan and Pana Pradhan of the locality have been damaged. It is learned that due to continuous rain, the walls of the thatched houses became weak and collapsed one after another. After the houses collapsed, the families are facing difficulties as they have no place to take shelter. It has also become difficult to retrieve essential items from the damaged houses amidst the rain. As the rain continues, the family members are afraid to stay in the broken houses. However, the plight of Rashmita Pradhan’s family is more worrying. Even though her house was damaged in rain and wind last year, her differently-abled son Arun Pradhan has alleged that no government assistance has been received from the Tehsil office till now. He has also alleged that the Tehsildar was not seen even after the incident. After the house collapsed again this time, the family’s distress has increased further. When contacted, Sarpanch Utkal Pradhan said he was elsewhere at a tree plantation program. He said that after learning about the incident, he has informed the Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) and asked him to visit the spot.Arun Pradhan’s family was earlier included in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. However, due to delay in house construction, they were excluded from the list.On the other hand, Polsara BDO Shashibhushan Mahapatra said that maximum Pradhan Mantri Awas and Antyodaya houses have been distributed to eligible beneficiaries of Sodaka. If any eligible family has been left out for any reason, they will be investigated as per government rules and included in the scheme.
