Bhanjanagar,26/9(Dr Kumud Chandra Behera):South Odisha has been battered by continuous rain for the last three days. While the water level of rivers has risen at various places in Ganjam district, the Kalinga Ghati road at the Kandhamal and Ganjam border has been blocked due to collapse of guard walls and falling of large boulders.A similar incident had occurred last year as well, raising questions about the permanent repair and durability of Kalinga Ghati. In this context, Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena today visited the spot and said that apart from its immediate repair, another temporary road will be constructed. Today, the Ganjam District Collector, Bhanjanagar Sub-Collector, DFO Bhanjanagar, along with officials of the agency constructing the ghati road were present at the landslide site.It is worth mentioning that Kalinga Ghati acts as a lifeline for Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. At present, communication between both districts is cut off, which has affected people’s lives and livelihoods. The road which was once bustling and had many shops and markets open, all of that is now closed and many families have lost their livelihood.
